Only those with big facilities need worry I think, and that is what Digi is targeting with their initial release plans for XP PCIe compat docs. However, with the power that PCI/PCI-X based dual dual core systems are acheiving (the now infamous "Quadzillas"), "future-proffing" is not that big of a concern IMO. IMO, it is only those looking to build a new system that may worry. Since there was no immediate need for it, and since the HD PCIe cards are only 1x, there was no reason for them to worry about XP users.but we are kinda ticked that we were left behind.again. There might be a few others with no support for XP and PT HD. Soundtoys is being quite casual with getting support for PT7 on XP going. Wicked, evil, "bring a tear to your eye" stories.ON BOTH. I have heard horror stories on both plats.
So everyone in my team use Windows on Thinkpads.įor the occasions I need to use full-fat Excel/PowerBI ,I have Parallels running Windows 10 as well - also good for SSMS & SSRS for the rare occasions I use those (Azure Data Studio is a far better SQL IDE and works cross-platform!)įor me, other office apps are fine on Mac - I use Powerpoint fairly extensively and can't say I ever feel slowed down/unable to do anything. This has been discussed not too long ago here.within 2-3 months.īoth will work fine. They also use PowerBI quite a bit more than I do (I tend to review/consume, so PowerBI Online is mostly fine for me).
They use Excel more intensively than I do and need access to the full feature set. Biggest missing area is data model / power pivot - for many people this alone would be a good reason not to use it, but for me, I'll just jump into R or something if I need to work with much large datasets.įor my team members though, it's a little different. I can still can do realtime co-authoring with colleagues (super important), and can achieve most of what I need to. These days, my Excel use is typically limited to quick & dirty charts & analysis - and it's 'fine' for that. I head up a data analytics team (within a small/medium tech company), so we have a mix of Windows, Mac & Linux across the business.
